The 13th century Bailur Mahishamardini Temple is just 2 km away from Udupi. The statue of Goddess Mahishamardini is three feet in height and is made up of Balapa (a whitish pot-stone, used for writing on slate). The idol is exhibiting a posture of killing Mahishasura by the edge of her Thrishula (trident). Here We can find a lithograph, which is said to be of 14th century, in the Temple complex, which provides needful information about the Temple. This is one amongst the 12 Shakti Peethas of Udupi.
